DR. MARIA D. CHAPA
Dr. Maria Dolores Chapa is a native San Antonian. She graduated from Incarnate Word High School and attended Columbia University in New York City, New York, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a Spanish minor. She graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School in San Antonio and completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in 2006 at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Chapa worked at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center investigating the efficacy of anti-cancer agents. After completing medical school, she also worked in Cancer Prevention and Cancer Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine.
After completing residency she initially practiced as a hospitalist caring for ill patients with multiple medical problems in the hospital. She subsequently decided to open her own practice where she could continue to care for these patients. Vivir with Salud/Live Healthy Clinic was opened in December 2014. The Live Healthy treatment model emphasizes lifestyle modifications such as intense diet and exercise to positively impact patient health.
Dr. Chapa enjoys playing the piano, singing, and dancing. She is an avid supporter of the fitness community in San Antonio and encourages her patients to select an exercise activity that they enjoy. She believes that we should make exercise a regular part of our lives in the same way that we have made eating, sleeping, texting, and watching television routine daily activities.
